Up to this point, regards, marcel has been a weekly newsletter—and before I worry you, we’re not going anywhere. But between this project, my second book, my freelance work, and my bar job, I am facing a problem of scale. On top of this, beginning this month, I’m also bringing in monthly Proust guests, which means I’m corresponding and collaborating with, as well as scheduling and editing, others. There’s just not enough time in my day to juggle all this if I’m doing ~10k words here each month. My book has to be my first priority, in part because it’s the book I’ve needed to write for many many years, and in part because the publisher paid me an advance, and I LOATHE deferring deadlines.
So. The good news is, things won’t be changing all that much. Going forward, there’ll be 2-3 posts/month: (1) an essay in the style of the dispatches I’ve been sending out biweekly; (2) a miscellaneous missive from me (readings, recipes, conversations, etc); and (3) a dispatch from one of our illustrious guests, with the first one going live next weekend. The long essay will always remain free; the other posts will be for paid subscribers. The central logic behind utilizing a paid tier for this substack is that I’m able, in turn, to pay my guests. You all are helping make that happen!
If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out! Every project has its growing pains, and I feel incredibly lucky to have so many people following along here—it’s a true delight to be guiding our little Proust ship…
In the meantime, (below the paywall) a brief reading, and a very excited à bientôt—I can’t wait to share what our first guest has put together for you all next weekend xoxoxo
