I used to think I wanted to be a housewife, but now, mostly, I don’t think this at all. I love to cook, to bake, to tidy, to decorate, but as my domestic labors have expanded, it’s become escalatingly evident the extent to which they sap time and energy from things I’d usually rather be doing—reading or writing, walking our dog in the park, going alone to the movies on a Sunday afternoon, spending an hour or two fucking off and doing absolutely nothing. (I’ll see the new Kelly Reichardt this week if it kills me!)
